Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) is the central government scheme to make people in rural India, across States / UTs, digitally literate. PMGDISHA was approved by the government in February 2017. The vision of PMGDISHA is to cover 6 crore persons, one member from every eligible household across all Gram Panchayats in States/UTs, and make them digitally literate. The project aims at helping adults with low technological literacy, develop the skills they need to interact in an increasingly digital world.
The objective of the scheme is to empower the citizens in rural areas by training them to operate computer or digital access devices (like tablets, smart phones etc.), send and receive e-mails, browse Internet, access Government services, search for information, etc. and hence enable them to use the Information Technology to actively participate in the process of nation building. The Scheme aims to bridge the digital divide, specifically targeting the rural population including the marginalised sections of society like Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST), Minorities, Below Poverty Line (BPL), women and differently-abled persons.
The CSC-SPV has worked actively in collaboration with the State IT Department for smooth implementation of the Scheme in Assam. The implementation of the Scheme at the ground level is done through the involvement of Training partners/Centres including CSCs duly affiliated with the CSC-SPV.
Around 96% of the State Target of 19.29 Lakh beneficiaries have been certified till Aug 2022 in Assam.
Assam is the 2nd state in the country to achieve 100% Gram Panchayat coverage under PMGDISHA.
